Message from the Vicar

Welcome to the Parish of Putney web site. The Parish of Putney comprises two churches, St. Mary's on Putney Bridge and All Saints' on Putney Common just off the Lower Richmond Road.
 

We are a very lively parish in the liberal catholic tradition but made up of people of many different styles. We aim to be a place of spiritual, intellectual and emotional refreshment.

We seek to give people the chance to learn and grow in their faith through challenging sermons and a variety of education courses. 

Palm Sunday - the annual procession starting at St. Mary's at 10am and arriving at All Saints' in time for the 10.30am service...

• Bible Study  Group - daytime group meeting 10am - 11.30am once a fortnight on Fridays.  Everyone welcome. Contact Amanda Cameron  8789 7442

• The Putney Senior Social Group for the over 60s continues every Monday from 10.00 am - 11.30 am at All Saints’ Church.  If you have any friends or neighbours you think would be interested, please take one of the  leaflets at the back of church.  For more details call Jo Warren 07970 280 172

• Wandsworth Refugee Network is a church based organisation that believes the debate surrounding asylum seekers demands a Christian response.  Fine out how you can get involved from Parish Action on the notice boards.  Refugee week starts this week.  If you would like to support/volunteer or make financial donation contact Nathalie Gordon on 020 8785 2342 or nathaliegordon@hotmail.com

• Annual Cricket Match Wednesday 16th July, Parish vs St Mary’s School (parents), at King’s College School, Wimbledon from 4pm for prompt 5pm start followed by drinks on the village green.  Supporters very welcome & hidden cricketing talent.  Please contact adam.daniels@ba.com

• Saturday 19th July Maintenance Work Day at St Mary's from 10am to 12noon.  There are plenty of light maintenance jobs that need doing (not requiring any particular skills) so come along for an hour or two if you can.  Please put your name on the list on the Church Events notice board to the right of the Vestry if you can help.  Thank you.

• Childrens Eucharist—Sunday 20th July - A service of Holy Communion for children and their families with music and activities, duration 45 minutes.  At 11.30am at St Mary’s after the 10am service.
  (N.B Please note there will be no Sunday School during the 10am service on this day).

• NEWPIN accepts donations of used toys and clothes for children and adults.  Please contact Kendall Jeynes by email on kendalljnyc@yahoo.com.

• Coffee being served at St Mary's! Please come and join us for a relaxed cup of coffee upstairs after the morning service. This is a good time for parishioners to meet one another, catch up and for the kids to get together also when the weather is fine the terrace overlooking the Thames is as fine a place as any for a leisurely coffee. Do join us!

Putney Debates 1647 Exhibition.
This is a permanent exhibition in St Mary's Church, Putney (by Putney Bridge).
Opening hours:-
Monday to Saturday 10:00am to 4pm

You are advised to telephone 020 8788 4414 before visiting for the weekly update of church use during the week as there may be extra services, school or community events during which the exhibition will not be available for visitors.

During term time the church (Cromwell room annex) is used by pre-school groups on week day mornings, causing some additional back ground noise.
On Wednesdays each week there is a lunchtime (12:00 noon - 1pm) service of Holy Communion.

• Pastoral Care at All Saints’ Church - every Sunday members of the Pastoral Care Team will be in church after the 10.30 am service (wearing badges with smiley faces!). Feel free to talk to them if you (or someone you know) are in need of some support or practical help, going into hospital, or simply want to have a chat over coffee. They will also be greeting newcomers and offering   information about what the church can offer from a pastoral perspective. For more information, contact Clemancy Gordon-Martin  (020 8789 7798)

• SINGING AT ST MARY’S - Ever considered joining the choir at St Mary’s? We’re looking for as many people as possible to become involved in the musical life of the church. St Mary’s Choir meets every Tuesday from 8pm – 9pm; why not come and join us? You do not need to have had any experience of singing in a choir before, although an ability to read music would be helpful. We will be singing a wide variety of music in the coming months, both old and new, and contributing to a variety of Morning Eucharist and Caritas services. • Parish Media Advertising - If anyone in the congregation has a service or a business that they would like to advertise in either the parish magazine or on the Friends of the parish page of this website the team would like to hear from them. The parish magazine is produced approximately bimonthly. • Mother and Toddler Group for Children with special needs - A group for mother's with toddlers who have special needs takes place at St Mary's every Wednesday between 10-11.30am. Please telephone Charlotte Lyons for further details on 020 8877 1464

• Sally @ St Mary’s — ‘An eclectic vision of the church and the community’
  The new café at St Mary’s is open 7days a week Selling delicious homemade food and coffee. Weekend BBQ’s from September. Please come and try them out. 020 8246 6859 (Many of you will know Sally and Warren - previously at LooLoos in Leaders Garden)

Newcomers are constantly moving in and we try to get to know them as quickly as possible and make them feel at home among friends.

If you are new to the parish and would like to be contacted, please write you name, address, postcode and telephone number down on a piece of paper and pass to a church warden / sidesperson / member of the clergy (check out the Who's Who page for assistance!). Please also include the names and date of birth of any children you have under the age of 18 years old. We look forward to meeting you!

We rely heavily on the generosity of the congregation for the financial support for the church. If you would like to donate, please use one of the following forms and return to Richard Holman c/o the Parish Office:

• Standing Order Form - a form to enable you to set up a monthly payment from your bank to the church.
• Combined Standing Order Form and Gift Aid Declaration - as above, but will allow the church to treat all donations as gift aid, meaning that the church can reclaim tax from the government.
• Gift Aid Declaration with notes - should be completed to accompany any one off payment to enable the church to reclaim any tax from the government.
